Micro-tools

I'm a bit of a buff for mini-multi-tools: little things you can put on your keychain that include pliers and screwdrivers. I end up using mine several times a day. And over the years I have had and used the Leatherman Micra, the Sebertech and Swisstech versions, and a couple of others. But I've recently gotten ahold of the SOG Crossgrip, and I'm telling you it is by far the best. It is beautifully engineered: tight and crisp. It's designed similarly to the Micra, but all the tools are better, especially the knife blade. And the compound-grip pliers are easily the best, in fact the only ones on a keychain tool that are actually useful. If I were putting up a wish list, I'd wish for a full-fledged Phillips (as opposed to a single blade) and I could wish for a locking system for the blade and the drivers. But that might be impossible at this size.

I'd say the second-best tool in this class is the Swisstech Microtechnician. It's extremely compact and sturdy, and really the drivers and piers are the tools I use most commonly anyway, though I also carried a knife with it. The full-fledged phillips and mini-drivers were extremely useful. The Sebertech M-2 is similar to the Swisstech but is so light and flimsy as to be useless. The Leatherman Micra is a good little tool, but damn it's no SOG.
Soon: evaluations of larger multi-tools.
